An average person sheds between fifty and one hundred hairs every day. This figure — though substantial — represents a natural and healthy phase within the hair’s continuous growth cycle.
Hair growth is not constant but a series of distinct phases: anagen, catagen, and telogen. Each strand independently moves through these stages.
The anagen phase, or active growth stage, can last two to seven years. Hair cells divide rapidly, forming new fibres that push older hairs out of the follicles.
Following anagen is the catagen phase, a short transitional period of two to three weeks. Here, growth ceases, and the follicle shrinks, preparing for shedding.
The final stage is telogen, the resting phase, which typically lasts around three months. Hair remains in the follicle but is no longer actively growing. At its end, the hair is naturally released.
The hairs seen in our brush or shower drain are predominantly those in the telogen phase. Their departure makes way for new, anagen-phase hair to begin its cycle again, ensuring constant renewal.
Many shampoos use harsh detergents that disrupt the scalp’s delicate balance. Evera’s shampoos, crafted in Italy and used daily in four London salons, utilise a gentle, coconut-derived cleanser (sodium coco-sulfate) to clean without stripping essential lipids from the scalp.
Our botanicals are organic-farmed, and all products are paraben-free and vegan. Evera prioritises formulations that support healthy hair and scalp, respecting the natural physiological pH of the skin.
Observing daily hair shedding is not a cause for concern in itself, but an indication of a healthy, dynamic system at work. It is a continuous process of regeneration.
