Rice in Evera: Rice Extract and Hydrolysed Rice Protein

Rice has been central to Asian hair care traditions for centuries — Japanese court women were renowned for their floor-length, lustrous hair, maintained with rice water rinses. In Evera, rice appears as rice extract and, in three of our masks, as hydrolysed rice protein.

What Rice Is Traditionally Used For

Hydrolysed rice protein — Hydrolysed rice protein is rice protein broken into smaller fragments. It is used in conditioning products. We do not claim that it repairs damage inside the hair.

Rice extract — Rice extract is used in conditioning products for softness and shine. These are traditional uses, not measured results.

Rice in Evera's Formulas

Organic-farmed rice extract is in our Moisturising and Supherbal shampoos and masks:

  • Shampoos No.2, No.3, No.4 and No.5: rice extract
  • Masks No.2, No.3, No.4 and No.5: rice extract, plus hydrolysed rice protein in Masks No.3, 4 and 5

In our formulas, rice extracts work alongside fenugreek and, in the shampoos, niacinamide (Vitamin B3). Each product page lists exactly what is in that formula.

Hydrolysed Rice Protein vs Rice Water

Rice water and hydrolysed rice protein are different things:

Rice water is the water left after soaking or boiling rice, used as a rinse.

Hydrolysed rice protein (in Supherbal Masks No.3, 4 and 5) is rice protein that has been broken into smaller fragments for use in a formulation. We do not claim it works better than a home rinse.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can rice protein cause protein overload?

Protein-rich products can feel stiff on some hair. If that happens, use the mask less often and follow with a moisturising product.

Is rice protein safe for all hair types?

Rice is a common ingredient and our products are made for regular use, but no ingredient suits every head of hair. Check the ingredient list, and patch-test if you have allergies.
