The right towel for hair health.

The right towel for hair health.

Hair’s outermost layer — the cuticle — consists of overlapping keratin cells. When wet, these cells swell, becoming significantly more vulnerable to friction. The post-wash drying method is therefore crucial for hair health.

Traditional cotton towels, with their looped fibres, are highly absorbent. However, this efficiency often abrades the delicate cuticle layer. Vigorous rubbing with cotton leads to frizz, breakage, and a dull appearance.

Microfibre offers a smoother alternative. Its finer synthetic strands absorb water gently, yet some lower-quality microfibres can still create friction due to their tight weave. This may disrupt the hair shaft’s integrity.

An old cotton t-shirt presents a superior, gentler option. Its flat, woven fibres are less abrasive than looped terry cloth. This allows for soft blot-drying, minimising cuticle disturbance and helping maintain natural moisture.

Regardless of material, technique matters more than absorption capacity. Rather than rubbing, gently squeeze and blot sections of hair, working from roots to ends. This encourages water removal without forcing the cuticle open.

Most commercial formulations rely on silicones to smooth the cuticle after harsh drying. Evera’s plant-led approach instead focuses on prevention — utilising ingredients like Aloe barbadensis leaf juice and specific glycerides to maintain cuticle integrity.

Preserving the cuticle’s smooth, closed structure is paramount for truly healthy hair. It retains moisture, reflects light for natural shine, and acts as a barrier against environmental stressors.

The humble towel, often overlooked, holds significant sway over hair’s long-term vitality. A considered choice, paired with a gentle drying method, forms an essential foundation for resilient, radiant hair.
