Why We Chose Sodium Coco-Sulfate — A Balanced Approach to Clean Haircare

Why We Chose Sodium Coco-Sulfate — A Balanced Approach to Clean Haircare

Posted by Andrea Hrochova on

We believe in transparency. Our customers often ask:

“If your shampoos are natural, why do they contain Sodium Coco-Sulfate?”

It’s a great question — and we’re here to answer it clearly.

What Is Sodium Coco-Sulfate?

Sodium Coco-Sulfate (SCS) is a plant-derived cleanser made from coconut oil. It’s often confused with Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), but they’re very different:

  • SLS is a synthetic, harsh surfactant that can irritate skin.

  • SCS is a natural blend of coconut fatty acids, with larger molecules that cleanse gently and don’t penetrate the skin as deeply.

Why Not Go Sulfate-Free?

You’ve seen the trend: “Sulfate-Free” everywhere. But here’s the truth:

Many sulfate-free shampoos use ultra-mild cleansers that:

  • Don’t cleanse effectively

  • Struggle with oil, product, or scalp buildup

  • Need synthetic boosters to feel like real shampoo

We didn’t want to compromise performance or overload your scalp with unnecessary synthetics.

So instead, we asked:

What ingredient offers real cleansing power, but remains gentle and plant-based?

The answer: Sodium Coco-Sulfate — in the right dose.

How Gentle Is It?

Here’s a scale of common cleansers and their “potential harshness”:

Surfactant

Harshness Scale (1–10)

Notes

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS)

10

Strong, often irritating

Sodium Coco-Sulfate

4

Milder, coconut-derived

Decyl Glucoside

2

Very mild, but weak cleanser

Wvera Shampoo Formula (buffered)

3–4

Balanced with oils and extracts

Our shampoos are formulated with balancing ingredients like:

  • Aloe Vera

  • Rice protein

  • Plant oils and botanical humectants

These help maintain your scalp’s natural oils while cleansing effectively.

A Thoughtful Formula — Not a Trend

We chose Sodium Coco-Sulfate because:

  • It’s coconut-based, not synthetic

  • It’s biodegradable and vegan

  • It creates a beautiful lather — without silicones or fillers

  • It works — without compromising your hair or scalp health

Clean, Honest Haircare That Works

We could have labeled our shampoos “sulfate-free.”

But we chose honesty over hype.

Sodium Coco-Sulfate is not the enemy — it’s a plant-powered tool we use thoughtfully to give you the clean, balanced results your hair deserves.
