The argument against silicones in haircare.

The argument against silicones in haircare.

Silicones, often identified as dimethicone or cyclotetrasiloxane on the INCI list, form a significant component of many conventional haircare formulations. These synthetic polymers are primarily designed to create a smooth, slippery feel and instant surface shine.

This immediate cosmetic film provides easy detangling and a superficial gloss, effectively masking any surface irregularities. Crucially, however, it does not contribute to the hair's intrinsic health or address underlying concerns.

Over prolonged use, these compounds can accumulate, particularly on finer or lower-porosity hair types. This build-up may lead to a noticeable dullness and can impede the absorption of genuinely beneficial plant extracts.

The non-porous, occlusive nature of silicone means it forms a barrier. This can inadvertently trap environmental pollutants and dirt against the hair shaft, potentially exacerbating scalp irritation and product residue.

Furthermore, many common silicones are not readily water-soluble, often necessitating stronger cleansing agents for their complete removal. This process can inadvertently strip the hair of its natural protective lipids and disrupt the scalp's delicate pH balance.

While most conventional conditioners rely heavily on silicones for an immediate cosmetic effect, Evera formulations take a different path. We prioritise lamellar structures and nourishing plant glycerides to nurture hair from within.

Our approach integrates cold-pressed seed oils, rich in essential fatty acids, and complex polysaccharides derived from botanicals. These ingredients provide authentic conditioning and lasting strength.

These carefully selected plant-derived compounds work harmoniously, integrating with the hair's natural structure. They offer sustained softness, improved elasticity, and protection, all without surface occlusion.

The objective is to foster hair health that is truly resilient and vibrant, rather than merely coated. This philosophy deeply respects the hair’s natural physiological processes.

Opting for haircare without silicones is a considered choice for fostering authentic and enduring hair vitality.
