Beyond cruelty-free, ethical sourcing matters.

Beyond cruelty-free, ethical sourcing matters.

The European Union’s comprehensive ban on animal testing for cosmetic products came into full effect in 2013, with a sales ban on animal-tested ingredients following in 2018. This landmark legislation established a crucial ethical floor for beauty brands operating within the bloc.

While this directive rightly eliminated a significant area of concern, the ‘cruelty-free’ designation itself represents only one aspect of responsible product development. It addresses a symptom, not the entirety of ethical practice.

For Evera, adherence to these regulations is a given. Our focus extends beyond merely avoiding animal testing to scrutinising the broader ethical footprint of every ingredient we select for our Italian formulations.

True ethical responsibility encompasses the entire lifecycle of an ingredient. This includes the environmental impact of cultivation, the careful stewardship of land, and the preservation of biodiversity at the source.

Most brands may simply confirm their ingredient suppliers declare themselves cruelty-free. Evera, however, delves deeper — verifying cultivation methods, extraction processes, and the ecological impact of harvesting specific botanicals like our Sicilian aloe.

Consider the sourcing of plant oils rich in glycerides or complex polysaccharides. If these are harvested unsustainably, or if the land is exploited, the ethical claim becomes diluted. Precision in sourcing ensures both efficacy and integrity.

Human welfare is also paramount. We ensure that those involved in harvesting and processing our plant-led components receive fair compensation and work in safe conditions. This commitment underpins the quality of our raw materials.

This comprehensive approach ensures that our ingredients — from the smallest botanical extract to larger volume components — meet stringent standards far beyond basic regulatory compliance.

The label ‘cruelty-free’ is a fundamental expectation in modern, conscious haircare. However, it serves as an initial benchmark, not the culmination of a brand’s ethical obligations.

Genuine integrity in beauty demands an unwavering dedication to environmental care and human equity, from soil to finished product.
