The optimal hair mask frequency. Less often than commonly believed.

For most hair types, a deeply conditioning hair mask is optimally applied no more than once every two weeks. More frequent application often provides diminishing returns — potentially leading to product accumulation rather than improved hair health.

Hair fibres absorb active ingredients to a saturation point. Introducing further product before the hair has processed the previous application can result in a superficial coating, dulling natural shine. This build-up can also attract environmental particles.

Many conventional masks contain a high proportion of silicones or heavy oils, designed to offer an immediate but temporary smoothness. These can often be difficult to remove completely, necessitating stronger cleansing which may then strip beneficial natural lipids.

Evera formulations, by contrast, prioritise concentrated botanical extracts and naturally derived humectants. These work synergistically to provide genuine hydration and strengthen the hair's cuticle without relying on occlusive layers. Our approach focuses on efficacy with less product.

Maintaining the hair’s natural pH balance is paramount for cuticle integrity. An effective mask helps to gently restore this balance, ensuring the cuticle lies flat, which reflects light and minimises moisture loss. This process requires time to integrate.

Signs of over-masking include hair that feels heavy, appears greasy quickly, or lacks its usual bounce. The hair might also become resistant to styling — feeling somewhat 'slippery' or over-conditioned. These are indicators of an imbalance.

However, very dry, damaged, or chemically treated hair may benefit from a weekly application initially. Once the hair’s condition improves, reducing frequency to bi-weekly or even monthly is advisable to maintain optimal health. Observe your hair’s response.

Correct application also extends the mask’s effectiveness. Distribute evenly through damp, clean hair, focusing on mid-lengths and ends, then allow the recommended time for the amino acids and glycerides to penetrate. Rinsing thoroughly is essential.

This measured approach ensures that each masking session delivers its full benefit, contributing to sustained hair vitality and strength. It avoids overloading the hair, preserving its natural lightness and movement. Consistency, not quantity, is key.

Understanding your hair’s needs and responding with considered care yields the best long-term results.
