The correct frequency for hair masking.

A common misconception suggests daily or bi-weekly hair masking is beneficial. However, for most hair types, applying a mask more than once a week can prove counterproductive, potentially disrupting the hair’s delicate pH balance and leading to an over-conditioned feel.

The purpose of a hair mask is to deliver concentrated active ingredients — often ceramides, fatty acids or humectants — deeply into the hair shaft. These components work to repair damage, replenish moisture and fortify the cuticle.

Hair, particularly if fine or low porosity, can only absorb so much. Once the hair’s protein structure is saturated, additional product simply sits on the surface, potentially weighing it down or causing a greasy appearance.

Most conventional masks often contain high levels of silicones or heavy film-formers, which create a superficial sheen. Evera formulations, by contrast, focus on potent botanical extracts and biomimetic lipids that genuinely integrate with the hair fibre.

Consider the hair’s natural sebum production and its lipid barrier. Regular washing already removes a significant portion of these protective elements. A well-formulated mask should supplement, not overload, this delicate balance.

For healthy, untreated hair, a mask application every two to three weeks is often sufficient to maintain vitality. This allows the hair’s natural mechanisms to function without constant external intervention.

Coloured or chemically processed hair, however, may benefit from a weekly application to address increased porosity and potential damage. Here, the mask works to rebuild disulphide bonds and restore elasticity.

The key lies in observation. Notice how your hair feels a few days after masking. Is it still soft and pliable, or does it feel limp and heavy? This feedback guides optimal frequency.

The concentrated nature of effective ingredients means less is often more. A smaller amount of a potent formula, applied correctly and less frequently, will yield superior, lasting results compared to daily liberal use.

Thoughtful application ensures your hair receives precise nourishment without undue burden.
