The distinction between henna leaf and henna powder.

The Lawsonia inermis plant, source of henna, produces a distinctive red-orange pigment known as lawsone. This compound, responsible for the plant’s conditioning and colour-depositing properties, is naturally present within the leaf structure itself.

When these leaves are harvested, their integrity holds the lawsone along with other beneficial constituents like polysaccharides and tannins, in a stable, dormant state.

Most commercial henna products utilise finely ground powder — often with added metallic salts, chemical developers, or artificial dyes. These additions accelerate the dye release and create a broader spectrum of shades, yet compromise purity.

Evera, conversely, sources whole, dried henna leaves. Our approach prioritises the natural composition and slow, controlled release of the plant’s inherent compounds, ensuring gentler action.

The process of grinding leaves into a fine powder significantly increases their surface area. This exposes the lawsone to air and light, initiating oxidation that can diminish its efficacy and alter its pH balance over time.

Furthermore, the aggressive milling required for powder production can disrupt the delicate balance of other compounds, potentially affecting the final interaction with the hair’s keratin structure.

By using whole leaves, we control the maceration process. This allows for a measured extraction, preserving the integrity of the lawsone and co-present botanical compounds until they are ready to be activated.

This method prevents premature degradation, ensuring that the active principles — the complex blend of lawsone, cellulose, and other protective elements — are delivered in their most potent and balanced form.

Our commitment to the leaf means we avoid any hidden additives. The full botanical profile is retained, offering genuine benefits without the uncertainty of unidentified constituents common in many powders.

It is a subtle difference, yet fundamental to achieving authentic, plant-led hair health.
